Pre-Certification Seminar

Individuals who wish to become trainers must attend the full five days (January 26 to January 30) in order to qualify to become a trainer-intern. PCS Training is one of three steps required to become a Certified FAST Trainer.

 

Secondary Certification Seminar

Certified trainers who would like to become certified in another FAST model (i.e., Baby FAST, Early Childhood, Elementary, or Middle School) must attend the full five days (January 26 to January 30) before their internship in the new model.

 

Re-Certification Seminar

Certified trainers who wish to maintain their Certification or to sharpen their skills as a trainer/local director must attend Monday and Tuesday (January 26 and January 27). Certified Trainers must attend Re-Certification Training every three years to maintain certification.

 

Administrator Training

Administrators of FAST programs or individuals who wish to learn more about FAST should come to the first two days (January 26 and 27) of the training to gain an understanding of the FAST process and learn about program sustainability.

 

Discovery FAST

Individuals or agency representatives who wish to learn more about FAST should come to the first two days (January 26 and 27) of the training to gain an understanding of the FAST process and learn about program sustainability.

PRE-CERTIFICATION SEMINAR (PCS) will feature information on:

 

Family Systems Theory & Research Behind FAST

  • Discuss family stress theory and family therapy strategies underlying FAST.

·          Learn about current brain research that drives the latest changes in FAST.

·          Learn about the latest research in social capital, social ecological theory of child development, etc.

·          Highlight the importance of repetition of activities to build resilience.

  • Updated information on social capital & its effects on the family.

·          Discuss other changes to the FAST program since 1998.

 

Site Evaluation Process

  • Overview of FAST evaluation tools and process.
  • Discuss how to maximize use of outcome data.
  • Discuss program checklists and site visit report forms to help trainers maximize quality control.
  • Current publications and articles on FAST research.

 

Trainer Support Tools

  • FAST Trainer’s Resource Kit for trainers of Elementary School & Middle School FAST.
  • Program manuals for Middle School, Elementary School, Early Childhood, and Baby FAST.
  • Trainer CD ROM, which was developed in 2002.
  • Information about future Wisconsin Certification Board Exam.
  • Meet other trainers and develop supportive networks.

 

Networking and Problem Solving

  • Opportunities to network with new and old FAST Trainers.
  • Hear FAST stories and adaptations from sites across the US, Canada, Australia and Europe.
  • Best practices for working effectively with collaborative parent/professional FAST teams.
  • FASTWORKS strategies.
  • Problem-solving challenges of adaptations and programmatic drift.
  • How to take FAST to new schools and communities.

 

Additionally, the Seminar offers:

  • Updates on replication studies, Social Capital FAST, Baby FAST and High School FAST.

§         New sources for funding of FAST and information on how to promote sustainability of FAST.

·         Ideas for culturally appropriate practices (German, Austrian, Native American, Australian, Latino, and Hmong) for FAST communities.

·         Role-plays on group dynamics with group feedback.

·         Inspiration from the founder.

·         Information on new awards for FAST.

 

 

Administrators who attend Administrators Training will:

  1. Obtain a more complete understanding of the FAST program, which will enhance your ability to supervise FAST staff and maintain quality control of your FAST programs.
  2. Be able to effectively advocate for ongoing funding and learn ways to enhance funding of your FAST and FASTWORKS program.
  3. Learn from others about variability and adaptability of FAST with small and multi-site initiatives.
  4. Join the networking process and become connected to the FAST National Training and Evaluation Center for certification of your programs.
  5. Learn of the new developments of FAST including program improvements based on brain research and conflict resolution strategies.
  6. Learn about budgets and repositioning.

 

 

 

Individuals who attend Discovery FAST will:

  1.  Obtain a more complete understanding of the FAST program, which will enhance your ability to supervise FAST staff and maintain quality control of your FAST programs.
  2. Be able to effectively advocate for ongoing funding and learn ways to enhance funding of your FAST and FASTWORKS program.
  3. Learn from others about variability and adaptability of FAST with small and multi-site initiatives.
  4. Join the networking process and become connected to the FAST National Training and Evaluation Center for certification of your programs.
  5. Learn of the new developments of FAST including program improvements based on brain research and conflict resolution strategies.
  6. Interact with FAST Certified Trainers during the conference.
  7. Have the opportunity to meet with Pat Davenport, CEO, to discuss program implementation or any related questions or issues. 
  8. Have access to detailed information on one of the five FAST program models: Baby FAST, Pre-K FAST, Kids FAST, Middle School FAST, and Teen FAST.

The start time will not change. Please be ready to begin training at 8:30 a.m. every morning. The a.m. and p.m. break times might change due to the length and intensity of discussions. We will make every effort to be finished each day at 4:30. Occasionally, on Friday, we will end earlier. This will depend on the pacing of the individual breakout groups. However, please plan to be at the training on Friday until 4:30 p.m.

 

 

 

Registration:

The deadline for early registration is decided by the conference coordinator and the CEO. The Early Registration date is December 5, 2008.  You must be registered by this date in order to qualify for the early registration discount.  Cancellations must be received by January 26, 2009 or you will forfeit 50% of your registration fee. There will be a cancellation fee of $50.00 per registrant.  If your cancellation is received before January 26, 2009 you will receive a full refund for your registration fee.  For individuals who register within 7 days of the PCS training, we cannot guarantee that manuals and other items will be available for the first day(s) of training.

Registration Fees & Payment:

Administrator’s training costs of $749.00 must be received by FST, Inc. by January 26, 2009 or an agreement be in place to invoice a sponsoring agency.  Administrator’s training includes two days of training (16 hours) and an administrator’s handbook.

The fee for team members attending the weeklong training for their initial certification is different for each FAST program model.  Prices are listed below.

Baby FAST - $2599.00

Pre-K FAST - $2749.00

Kids FAST - $2499.00

Middle School FAST - $2599.00

Teen FAST - $599.00

These fees should be paid at the time of registration or an agreement be in place to invoice a sponsoring agency for the conference costs.  The fee includes five days of training (40 hours) and includes a PCS Manual, one FAST program manual, and a Trainer’s Resource Kit (for Elementary and Middle School FAST only).

If you already are a Certified Trainer and want to get certified in another track (Secondary Certification) or maintain your current certification (Re-Certification Training), your registration fee should be paid at the time of registration or an agreement be in place to invoice a sponsoring agency for the conference costs.  The fee includes a PCS Manual and a Trainer’s Resource Kit (for Elementary and Middle School FAST only). Secondary Certification includes 40 hours of training time and the Re-Certification Training includes 24 hours of training time.

Hotel Accommodations:

The conference will be held at the Crowne Plaza in the Mission Valley area of San Diego, California.  Room reservations are the responsibility of the conference participants and can be made over the phone using a passkey, information to be provided only upon conference registration.  The reservation cut-off for this special rate of $120.00 plus tax per night is January 10, 2009. If you wish to reserve a room after that date, the hotel will give you the special rate on a space-available basis.

FST, Inc. will not be held responsible for any charges related to lodging or travel.  These expenses are the responsibility of conference attendees or their sponsoring agencies. 

 

 

Meals:

Lunch and dinner are on your own. Continental breakfast and snacks will be provided daily. Lunch will be provided on Tuesday.  If you are in need of any particular dietary requests, please let the conference coordinator know at the time of registration in order to allow ample time for requests to be put in order with the catering director at the Crowne Plaza.

PCS Rules:

·          Cell phone use is not permitted during the training. If you are expecting an emergency phone call, please put your phone in the vibrate mode. Please do not leave the room to take a phone call unless it’s an emergency.

 

·          Please arrive at the PCS training on time. Training starts at 8:30 each day, with continental breakfast from 7:45 to 8:30 every day.  Please plan to stay at training until 5:00 each day. Arriving late and/or leaving early could jeopardize your certification.

 

·          Wear comfortable clothing, as you will be moving around during some parts of the training and sitting for other parts of the training. Dress in layers, as it is difficult to control the climate in some meeting rooms.

·          You will be provided with conference materials weighing around 15 pounds.  Please take this into consideration as the rules regarding luggage and weight has recently changed.  Conference participants are responsible for getting their own conference materials home. 

·          Conference attendees are allowed to change the program track they have registered for until January 10, 2009.  No changes to materials given or seminars attending will be made after conference has begun.  Any questions related to these changes should be worked out with the conference coordinator.
