Duke Endowment Funds FAST!

Posted by Pat Davenport on Thursday, July 8, 2010.

The Duke Endowment believes that evidence-based interventions are the most effective for successfully improving the lives of children and their families. The Endowment defines "evidence-based" interventions as programs or approaches that have been evaluated with at least two randomized controlled trials and have been successfully replicated in "real world" settings.

Evidence-Based Programs

In 2008, the Endowment endorsed 10 evidence-based programs and offered funding to help encourage their use in North Carolina and South Carolina. The 10 programs and their current status are as follows:

Families and Schools Togetheris a multifamily group intervention designed to create protective measures and environments for children ages 3-18 and empower parents to be the primary prevention agents for their children. The Duke Endowment is supporting implementation at Elon Homes for Children in North Carolina.

Duke Endowment provides funding to agencies and organizations in the family and child welfare arena.  The focus is on improving the lives of children and their families in general, not specifically tied to educational outcomes, substance abuse prevention, or mental health services.  Families and Schools Together is a program that strengthens families - and has been seen to be beneficial to every child, every parent, and every family.  If your organization serves children or families in North Carolina or South Carolina, please look into this funding source as a way to supplement or expand your FAST program!
